Look out everyone. If there’s a beloved project you’ve heard a studio is fast tracking before the strike in June and there’s no director currently attached to it, then I have some very bad news for you. Michael Bay is looking for work, and because he makes studio’s money…. he is usually at the top of potential franchise lists.
The reason he is looking for work is because Paramount are stalling on a sequel to the Transformers. Quite rightly too, I mean it’s only just finished it’s theatrical run and the studio will want to hear the fans concerns of what they didn’t like from the first movie, so they can improve and make tweaks for the sequel.
Yes Transformers made tons of money and yes their was a lot of praise for the film but there was also a huge negative reaction too. Paramount can’t afford to use this thing and have it made by June, no way at all. Which has left Michael Bay in the lurch a little as he mentions on his official message board…
“‘Transformers 2′, well that’s another story. Iching [sic] to work pre-strike (June) so I might jump ship and come back a year or so later cause people at the studio have been dragging for two months. Not sure why. I’ll keep you informed.”
Ok, so what could he actually jump ship to?
Well we know that Disney are pushing for a Prince of Persia movie as their next Pirates of the Caribbean like franchise and we’ve heard Bay’s name mentioned in conjunction with it many times in the past. That would seem to be the obvious choice although it’s a little sad for those who saw real potential in this.
Sam Raimi, I believe is who we all wanted. Hell, if Pirates of the Caribbean 3 showed that Gore Verbinski has lost his passion for Pirates but not monsters, then maybe an epic Sinbad-esque Prince of Persia would be up his ally?
Still Bay seems favourite. Are we close to hearing an official announcement on this?
