The Sunday Times – not a paper I can say I usually pick up (mostly due to the ridiculous price) – published an intriguing article this past weekend regards Tobey Maguire’s involvement in SPIDERMAN 4 and 5.
It is reported that Maguire is set to earn a record $50million dollars for the back-to-back shooting next summer over 6 months. What makes this deal even more unique is that Maguire is only expected to be working HALF DAYS! I wish I could work half days for 50 dollars, let alone the quarter of a million Tobey Maguire will earn every day (unless I’ve done my maths wrong, which is quite probable).
The reason for the half day shifts are down to Maguire requesting what The Sunday Times describes as “family-time” with his 22-month old daughter, Ruby, and wife Jennifer Meyer.
“Tobey admits he is obsessive-compulsive about everything he does, and raising Ruby is no different,” a friend said last week. “There’s no way Tobey would allow work, no matter how well paid, to get between him and Ruby, and Sony realised that.”
Sony had originally rejected his requests for the extra time away from set, but presumably came grovelling back when they realised the series would probably have no legs without Maguire.
No word yet on the return of Kirsten Dunst.

Im not against the idea of Maguire returning for the role but I wouldn’t miss him either. Also im pretty sure it was the fact that it was Spider-Man that got people in theatres to see it not tobey maguire, I know the series would still make a ton of money without him.
The series just wouldn’t really make sense without him now, though.
Somehow i think it’s gonna take longer than 6 months to shoot bak-to-back spidey movies-esp w/ Tobey taking half days-obviously,his daughter is his #1 priority,which is understandable, but he also wants to work and is very attached to his role-I’m betting that after Spidey 4 and 5 he will move on-and then we can expect a new spidey, a new director and a new ‘feel”
While it’s true that any actor could wear the tights, Tobey IS Peter parker-and I’m super excited that there are gonna be 2 more raimi/maguire spidey flicks! Also sure that neither of them would be swayed unless there is an awesomne story planned-I want to see Dr Conners become The Lizard-and perhaps…The Scorpion? That story would be an excellent chance to showcase the incredible JK Simmons as JJJ-remember, he helped create The Scorpion to take out Spidey only to have his creation turn against him and have the web-slinger save his life-word of advice to filmmakers-(although I’m sure Raimi is already on this)-3 villians was too many-and def no more crying! Also,let’s give MaryJane a break for awhile-for 3 films in a row she’s been kidnapped at the end forcing Spidey to rescue her.
Spend more time at The Bugle, and let’s see Peter w/ his 1st real girlfriend,Betty Brant! Other villans I”D love to see would be Electro, Mysterio,Kraven or the Shocker-but I think the best choice for #4 and #5 needs to be The Lizard-then they could shift the climax to The Everglades and get out of New York-just like in Amazing Spider Man #6-and then,The Vulture!!!I have a feeling that Sony, Raimi and Tobey are itching to top warners, Nolan and Bale-can’t wait!

SPIDER-MAN series will rack up 7 movies or more.
Maguire won’t be around for them all, the time now feels right to move on… a distinct change from the original trilogy is needed.
Fuck Maguire, he ain’t worth the money or the hassle and besides, he’s a little stale as SPIDER-MAN right now.
If they could re-cast Connery for Bond, they sure as hell won’t have any trouble re-casting Maguire.
