Man of Steel: 10 Mistakes From Superman Returns Reboot Must Avoid

2. The Villain

I'm sorry, Kevin Spacey and Lex Luthor fans, but this one just didn't work. I get as much joy as the next guy in seeing a talented actor chewing the scenery and creating a larger than life character , but there's a fine line that shouldn't be crossed. When the tone of your movie isn't a strictly comedic one, you definitely don't want your bad guy to turn into a cartoon character. Getting in people's faces and screaming at them, a megalomaniacal obsession to rule , and generally acting psychopathic will only get you so far. At some point the villain has to convince the audience that he is menace is for real. If the audience never believes that Superman might not make it out of this one, you have failed.
