4. Jor-El vs. Zod
Man Of Steel did something that no other Superman film has ever done: it gave us tangible proof that Jor-El is a complete and utter badass, and worthy of his consideration as the father of a demi-God. The film starts on Krypton and stays there for a good part of the first half, and gives us more of an insight into Kal-El's heritage as well as Krypton's culture. Best of all, of course, is the portrayal of Jor-El, who is awesome in this film, largely thanks to Russel Crowe who kills it in the role, offering a perfectly pitched new take on the character. When Jor-El suits up in his armour and faces off against Zod, it was incredibly hard not to jump out of my seat celebrating. Jor-El is the ultimate hero in that first segment: more than just beating Zod up, he actually knows what's going to happen to Krypton and tries to warn the idiots on the council, who of course don't listen and basically condemn the race to death. This of course prompts Jor-El to steal the codex and send his son to safety on Earth, where he can help the race establish itself again.
