As the build towards DC’s Man of Steel movie grows day by day, have any of you reading this wondered why there’s been so little mention of the film’s big bad? Well wonder no more as a new viral video released today finally gives the movie world what it’s been waiting for – a glimpse of General Zod himself and man is he scary!
The video itself is your typical internet viral. Made up of white noise, interference and static it’s as if Zod has managed to project himself onto the television screens of us puny humans from the darkest corner of the galaxy. And as poor a job as he’s done at getting his ugly mug on screen the message he delivers is perfectly clear: Kal-El (that’s Superman for the uninitiated) must surrender himself to his fate or watch as the planet he holds so dear crumbles and its citizens … wait for it … kneel before Zod!
Given how little we’ve seen or heard from General Zod during the build to Zack Snyder’s dark reimagining it’s no wonder fans were hesitant as to how well Michael Shannon would be able to pull off the iconic villain but it’s safe to say that his performance is in keeping with the ultra realistic world of the modern DC Universe. He’s not playing this role for laughs like Kevin Spacey’s Lex Luthor in the horrendous Superman Returns (shame on you Kevin). No, Shannon is playing Zod as a spine chilling psychopath with a terrible agenda and quite honestly we cannot wait to see more of him.
Directed by Zack Snyder and co-starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Russell Crowe, Man Of Steel opens in the UK on 14 June 2013.
