Lest any of us forget, Zack Snyder (Watchmen, Sucker Punch) is currently at work on his reboot of the Superman franchise. Dwarfed to date by the hype surrounding the much more imminent superhero epics of The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man and yes, The Dark Knight Rises, Warner Bros have made a rejuvenated effort to ignite hype around the film, which is well over a year from release.
The newly revamped DC comics site has released a “synopsis” for the summer 2013 release;
“Superman takes to the skies once more as acclaimed actor Henry Cavill (The Tudors, Immortals) dons the suit, cape and S-shield of the MAN OF STEEL. With an all-star cast that includes Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as John and Martha Kent, Clark’s earthbound parents; Oscar® winner Russell Crowe as Superman’s Kryptonian father Jor-El; The Fighter’s Amy Adams as intrepid Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane; The Matrix’s Laurence Fishburne as editor Perry White; and Boardwalk Empire’s Michael Shannon as Superman’s otherworldly archenemy General Zod, populations from Smallville to Metropolis are psyched for Superman. With the directorial stylings of 300′s Zack Snyder and the superheroic production team behind Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, the sky’s the limit for the last son of Krypton!”
Considering the complete lack of plot detail included, one can only assume that this was put together just for the sake of it. This feels like a press release that has come a year too late, and has one sole purpose – to populate the official Man of Steel webpage, thus avoiding blank space. (They just peaked too early with that bank vault snapshot.)
All bitching aside, its nice to see that no more surprise recasting has taken place. Despite some serious reservations about the directorial choice, one can only hope Nolan’s involvement will add that famous Midas touch. And when we finally get to see Cavill’s Supes go head-to-head with Shannon’s Zod, it will be a thing of beauty!
Fingers crossed that the next dripfeed of Superman info will be slightly more….super.

Um…ditch the suit. We don’t need another remake. We need THEE suit back, a la Christopher Reeve. It’s not the franchise itself killing the buzz–it’s those in production who are trying to change it that are.
NO
The sunopsis for the superman:man of steel is truly amazing and i can,t wait to see the new superman movies in 2013 and it will best dc movies in 2013.
Emmmm, it’s not the production team that have changed the suit, this is the suit that superman wears in the revamped New 52 by DC, this is now “thee” suit
I’m looking forward to MOS movie even more that TDKR & Avengers…Nolan & Zack are a dream team. Bring it on DC/WB!
I have to say that this “Superman” movie has not captured my imagination very much. Indeed, I’ve been channelled to this film more than allured. Much like a farmer might use a boarder collie to chase sheep into a fenced area so he can shave their bums.
I hope this film is good. The other Superman film with Kevin Spacey was truly terrible. I mean, I thought it was illegal. I thought I was watching a crime. It was so weird, like weirdly bad, like “how could they make this so bad” bad.
Why are so many people complaining about reboots. There just bringing new technology to classic scripts to make the movie more realistic. The classic is still going to be there. To me this film has the 2 best producers behind it. It’s gonna be amazin. Think al be the first to see that this is gonna break records.
I truly believe this will go down as one of the best superhero movies of all time…through my extensive reading on-line, and luckily I was able to see the Comic Con trailer…which was incredible. Down to the casting, story, filming approach, style, this will be the Superman movie that many of us have always pictured in our minds. We have to leave behind the past attempts and preconceived notions…focus on what will be a great film, let alone a superhero movie. The Man of Steel will do what Batman Begins did to its franchise. It’s really a shame when people already are creating these negative opinions on a project they know so little about…sit back and enjoy what will be the Superhero movie that we have all been waiting for.
