Mark Heyman & Darren Aronofsky's Facebook Thriller XOXO Lands At Lionsgate

Black Swan duo have crafted an original thriller about the dangers of starting an online fling, described as a mix between Fatal Attraction and Catfish.

Darren Aronofsky and Mark Heyman's new Facebook thriller, the awkwardly titled XOXO, has found a home at Lionsgate, according to a report in Variety. Heyman, the writer of Aronofsky's absurdly brilliant Black Swan has wrote the script which is described as a 21st century version of Fatal Attraction and revolves around a promising twentysomething executive who is engaged but falls into an online fling with a female contemporary on Facebook, only for her to go all Glenn Close on him. A 'deadly twist' is promised, so you can probably take a good guess at where this one is planned to go. See 'Catfish' for a good example of what I'm talking about. Sadly Aronofsky is only producing the movie as it would have been kick-ass to see his claustrophobic, Polanski style Black Swan direction on another of Heyman's scripts. A hunt is currently on for a director. As boring as two people sitting around a computer screen sending text speak to each other endlessly for two hours sounds like it could be (i.e. €“ what we expected The Social Network to be), Heyman has found a unique way of telling the story €œby constructing the digital interactions in stylized visual sequences€ but I wouldn€™t expect anything quite like The Matrix. At least a straight-up thriller seems to be planned and not so overbearing cautionary tale about the dangers of using the Internet. We don't need one of those films...
