Marvel Cinematic Universe: 10 Best Villains Of 2018 So Far

9. Proxima Midnight

Thanos Killmonger
Marvel Studios

Appeared in: Avengers: Infinity War

With so much going on in Infinity War, it's unfortunate that the Black Order had to take a bit of a backseat within the film in terms of characterization. We didn't really get to know them or learn anything about them beyond the simple fact that they're dangerous and extremely loyal to Thanos, and of the group of four, the hulking Cull Obsidian and the sneaky Corvus Glaive really drew the shortest straws in terms of memorability.

For what little she was given to do, however, Proxima Midnight was still able to leave a bit of a lasting impression, the character having solid tussles with characters like Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, and Okoye, and Carrie Coon's voicework was suitably cold (in a good way).

In essence, she was an intriguing character whose presence we didn't get enough of, and it's unfortunate that things like her relationship with Corvus or what her dynamic may have been like with her fellow "sisters" Gamora and Nebula went unexplored.

With long-deceased villains Ronan and Korath returning in next year's Captain Marvel to illuminate their backstories, hopefully another story somewhere down the line can give Marvel the chance to turn the clock back again so that we can learn more about Proxima and recontextualize her appearance in Infinity War, but as it stands, leaving people wanting more of the character is better than her being entirely forgettable.
