Marvel Cinematic Universe: 10 New Villains To Watch Out For In 2018

Appearing In: Ant-Man and the Wasp

Sonny Burch isn't a name that's going to jump out to too many people. In the comics, Burch was a chairman at Cross Technologies and eventual United States government member, a man who put profits over safety in his efforts to become the nation's leading weapons supplier, something that inevitably blew up in his face and led to his own suicide.

In the grand scheme of things, he's a minor player, which makes his upcoming appearance in Ant-Man and the Wasp all the more intriguing, as the casting of the always-welcome Walton Goggins in the role has suggested that he's in for something bigger in the MCU. As discussed with Ghost, few specifics about the film have been unveiled for now, but Burch's ties to Cross Technologies are undoubtedly going to remain intact.

With Darren Cross having met his end in Ant-Man, someone needs to take his place picking up the pieces of his company, and Burch fills that void. His character comes with absolutely zero baggage from fans, which means the film has a wide canvass upon which to paint and color him in, and it's entirely possible that Burch could turn out to be a decent guy in the end if they want to subvert expectations (but that's doubtful). However it shakes out, the casting of Goggins alone is enough to demand attention, and it's hard not to look forward to seeing what his place in all this turns out to be.
