Marvel Cinematic Universe: 11 Films To Expect In Phase 4

From sequels to solo outings, returning favorites and new faces, what can we expect in Phase 4?

For the past few years, it seemed that Avengers: Endgame was going to mark the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's monumental Phase 3, which kicked off back in 2016 with Captain America: Civil War, with July's Spider-Man: Far From Home set to launch Phase 4. Plans have changed, however, and now the franchise's big fourth chapter won't be kicking off until next year.

We won't know for some time what Marvel Studios' big plans are for Phase 4, undoubtedly until after the Spider-Man sequel is out and enough time has passed for the dust to settle on Phase 3, but the studio has already penciled out dates for at least eight films between 2020 and 2022.

Of course, Phase 4 is likely to extend beyond 2022 as part of a five-year plan (at the least) thanks to the sheer amount of sequels and solo outings for characters old and new that the minds behind the MCU, including Kevin Feige, have promised to explore.

With so much ahead of us in the years to come, and with Phase 3 drawing to a close, let's start sorting out what we'll likely be seeing in Phase 4, including some confirmed films, some that seem like no-brainers, and even one or two potential things that would be perfect additions to the ever-growing franchise, though be warned, as this rundown contains major spoilers for Endgame...

11. Black Widow

Black Widow's own standalone film has been a long time coming, especially for fans of the character who have wanted to see her branch out beyond being an Avenger and a supporting player in other heroes' films. Even those involved in the MCU, like Kevin Feige and Scarlett Johansson herself, have been talking it up as a possibility for years.

Armed with a script written by Jac Schaeffer and rewritten by Ned Benson and directed by acclaimed Australian director Cate Shortland, Black Widow's been stacking up its cast over the last few months as it heads towards production, with familiar faces like Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Rachel Weisz all signing on to join Johansson in her big solo outing.

Unsurprisingly, the specifics of the film are being kept close to Marvel's chest, but the character's history is such a broad canvas upon which any story could be painted. Aspects about her past that we've been teased with, such as the Red Room, and characters like Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and even the Winter Soldier could all play a part in her story depending on what the film chooses to explore about her history.

But no matter what happens, it'll be a welcome chance for fans to finally get to know Natasha Romanoff a little better following her Endgame sacrifice while kicking off Phase 4 next year.
