Marvel Cinematic Universe: 5 Films That Should Appear In Phase 3

We don't have superpowers ourselves, but that doesn't stop us from peering into the future to see what might happen in the MCU.

Two films down, three films to go, and the excitement is building for the next film in phase 2, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, due for release in April 2014 with Guardians Of The Galaxy to follow in August. Avengers: Age Of Ultron will round out phase 2 in May 2015, and it's safe to say that The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is showing no signs of slowing down. With Phase Two well and truly underway, and all of the films announced, the pertinent question here is which are the films in Phase Three? The first film in Phase Three has of course already been announced: Ant-Man will kick off Phase Three in July 2015, with Edgar Wright to direct and Paul Rudd to star in the eponymous role. And beyond that, it can be reasonably assumed that Phase Three will have six films, like phase 1, which leaves five slots free. The President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, has said that he likes the rhythm of having an existing franchise and a new franchise film each year, like what will happen in 2014 and 2015, so it seems very likely that this trend will continue into the rest of Phase Three. The following list is a prediction of the most likely films in Phase Three, with three existing franchises and three new franchises (including Ant-Man). They are listed from most likely to least likely. There are some notable omissions from this list: Iron Man 4 has not been included as Robert Downey Jr. is not contracted for any more solo films; Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist have all been excluded as new franchise films as they all have Netflix TV series in development, and The Punisher, Blade and Ghost Rider have been excluded as new franchise films as they would represent a significant tonal shift in the MCU. And finally, Namor has been excluded as a new franchise as the film rights are still owned by Universal. But with that in mind, there remains a bounty of film possibilities...
