Marvel Writers Jump Ship To Pen Transformers Origin Story

Another Cinematic Universe is forming.

There's long been rumblings of Paramount Pictures trying to turn the mega-successful Transformers series into a vast shared universe similar to Marvel's immensely successful MCU and it's now looking like they're following the comic giant in more ways than just basic concept. Last week news broke that the writers team brought together to plot out the future of the franchise included Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man) and Zak Penn (The Avengers) and now Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, who worked on rewrites for Ant-Man, are on board. It makes sense to pick writers with a strong past turning questionable ideas (remember that Iron Man was far from a sure thing at the time) into fresh, entertaining films who also have the ability to juggle foreshadowing later entries and sneaking in throwaway references. Going so close to Marvel, however, could also seem like a desperate attempt to mimic success. The proposed film that has the most excitement around it is named (for now) Transformers One, which is purportedly a prequel to the other films detailing the war on Cybertron. Getting rid of the unnecessary human-side of events would definitely lead to a movie that better embodies what long-standing fans want from the robots in disguise, although with Michael Bay still involved (even in a reduced role) there's still the overriding issue of explosions over vague substance. Transformers 5 is currently penciled for a 2017 release, although with the current franchise direction unsure expect that to shift. Does the idea of a new direction for Transformers excite you? Or is the franchise already too far gone? Share your thoughts in the comments.
