MCU: 10 Phase 3 Rumours That Turned Out To Be Bull

It was all *SO* obvious.

Given the massive popularity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s no wonder that the fan rumour mill is rife with talk of what direction its movies will take, way before they are even released. As recently as Phase 3 of the MCU, which was officially announced back in late 2014, fans have speculated – often wildly – as to where it will take the Avengers, their allies and their enemies.

With the conclusion of Phase 3 now in sight, we can safely scoff at many of the more outlandish rumours that swirled around the MCU fandom before its films were released. Of course, hindsight is 20/20, but if we’re completely honest with ourselves, some of those rumours did seem kind of plausible... if only for a short spell.

That said, with a further two Phase 3 films yet to come – Captain Marvel and the as yet untitled Avengers 4, both to be released in 2019 – there’s chance that perhaps at least a couple of these rumours could still materialise.

Until that point, however, it’s probably best we don’t get too invested. Either way, roll on 2019.

10. We’ll Get A Standalone Planet Hulk Movie

Marvel Comics

Though the last standalone Hulk movie – 2008’s The Incredible Hulk – was a bit of an anti-climax, since Mark Ruffalo took over the iconic role from Edward Norton, fans have been baying for another Hulk solo movie.

After we saw Hulk departing for destinations unknown in a stolen Quinjet at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron back in 2015, the stage seemed perfectly set for a Planet Hulk movie. Based on the Marvel comics storyline, it sees Hulk exiled to a distant planet (which he conquers) before returning to Earth as World War Hulk to exact revenge on the Avengers.

Unfortunately, as Universal currently hold the rights to any solo Hulk movie, Planet Hulk never came to be. Instead, we saw elements of the Planet Hulk arc incorporated into Thor: Ragnarok.

Not quite the result Hulk fans were hoping for, but still better than completely disregarding the storyline altogether.
