MCU: 10 Things You Learn Rewatching Thor

10. It Balanced Science And Magic So Perfectly

As mentioned in the introduction, the original Thor had one of the most difficult jobs of any of those early MCU flicks (bar The Avengers). While the universe wasn't as grounded in reality as, say, The Dark Knight, it was still set in the "real world", with everything being explained through scientific means - be it experiments gone wrong or futuristic technology imbuing billionaires with the power of flight.

Thor, on the other hand, is entirely based around a cosmic hero. Not only did it have to establish the fact that Earth wasn't the only planet to house intelligent life, but it also had to explain how Norse mythology and actual living, breathing Gods fit in Marvel's world without completely jarring with what had previously been depicted.

The film certainly plays it safe with the cosmic elements - setting a huge chunk on Earth and grounding the titular hero as a person first and deity second - but there's no denying how elegantly it explains how there being a race of Gods makes perfect sense.

It's stated that while Thor's powers may look like magic to humans, it's simply another form of science. He explains that if you showed the internet or even electricity to ancient humans, that too would have probably looked like magic - which doesn't entirely explain how he can summon down electricity from the sky - but at least does a great job of introducing Earth to a larger cosmos.
