MCU: 9 Best Character Arcs In The Infinity Saga

Three Phases and a whole lotta change.

Did avenging the fallen come at a price? Well, no. It actually came at several prices. Avengers: Endgame didn't just see the near biblical conclusion to Phase 3, but the culmination of several character arcs, whose white-hot determination to reverse the effects of Thanos' decimation brought to light the most intense traits of their personalities.

But this newfound grit to the MCU protagonists didn't just happen in the past year. The fleshed-out and wonderfully flawed personas of the Avengers and co has been patiently weaved in across the MCU since Phase 1.

The Marvel Character Universe began as a well-built caper which has gradually gathered intelligence with each passing segment. As with a decent TV series, the characters have blossomed accordingly. It has reached the stage where the costumes, weaponry, and superpowers are only partially relevant. Great performances, considerate writing, and a general passion for storytelling have made the Marvel superheroes so much more than that. So here's a guide to some of the best developments and transitions in the MCU, from Iron Man right through to Endgame.

9. Gamora Learning To Love

With The Mad Titan, Thanos, as her dad, Gamora didn't exactly get off to the right start in life. She was bred to kill, exercise ruthlessness, and most crucially, serve her maniacal pops. Therefore, it was of complete detriment to these characteristics, that she got lumbered in with the hapless, wise-cracking antics of Peter Quill and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Spending time with a good-hearted human with a passion for dancing and a complete disregard for authority in every respect, showed Gamora a better way. And it was a new lifestyle she willingly embraced. Two movies later, and she was a fully-fledged and decidedly more laid-back outcast, given to cheerfully miming the lyrics to The Rubberband Man by The Spinners.

It's a shame the joy of her transition didn't last. Seeing the return of her hard-nosed nut-crunching pre-Star-Lord ways in Endgame really showed how far she had come in that four-year time-span. But that's not to say that she won't be lulled into the world of rebellion and dance a second time round. Roll on Guardians 3.
