MCU Phase 4: 10 Marvel Movies Taika Waititi Should Direct

Will he be back on Thor? Or might he we squirrelling away on something weirder?

For all that Marvel is a massive company with huge budgets, they certainly don’t always play things safe. Robert Downey Jnr was a B-lister crashing out of the industry for the second time before Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth was a minor up and comer whose success could have been a flash in the pan and Chris Evans, while a fairly well-known and bankable lead in romcoms, had already starred in a superhero flop as Johnny Storm.

Likewise, they’ve had some maverick directors. Though James Gunn was forced out under controversial circumstances, he’d overseen two hugely popular Guardians Of The Galaxy movies and was due back for a third.

Seeing as that now won’t be happening, many have suggested Taika Waititi for the position. He galvanised Thor with a similar sense of humour, handled the cosmic elements brilliantly and knows how to juggle big casts. There’s just one problem: Waititi isn’t interested.

Apparently, it would be like saying “Hey, I’m your new dad, and this is how we make peanut butter sandwiches now” to the Guardians. Waititi did confirm recently that he definitely wants to work with Marvel again, and with his popularity and success, he probably has the pick of the roster.

10. Thor 4

This one’s a no brainer before we get into the more exciting (but in all honesty, less likely) picks. Having done such a superb job on Ragnarok, if he wanted to be back at the helm for Thor 4, Marvel would surely have no objections.

What’s most impressive about Thor is how it managed to be a soft reboot that still managed to continue the trilogy and link seamlessly into the ongoing universe, leading into Avengers: Infinity War.

After Thor’s debut movie and follow up The Dark World were both relatively boring duds, Waititi was ruthless with his changes. Everything considered deadwood was dropped, and the movie felt so much fresher for it.

With the fourth movie, there’ll be less of that needed, as pretty much everything hit the mark in Ragnarok. Hulk could move on to pastures new, and Thor’s people will need to find a new home, but the rest of the established themes, characters and plot from Ragnarok can remain. If he feels like pushing the boundaries again, he might even bring in Lady Loki.

Of course, if he wants to get really off the wall with the Thor universe, he does have other options...
