Moriarty Features In New SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS Poster

Jared Harris plays Sherlock Holmes' arch nemesis Prof. Moriarty in Guy Ritchie's Dec. 16th sequel to his rather fun original.

After Tom's Top 10 Sherlock Holmes adaptations article this past week, we have very quickly found ourselves in the mood for this December's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, the sequel to the Guy Ritchie 2009 effort which I half-enjoyed, half-didn't like. The movie was fun, unquestionably and easily Ritchie's best ever film and let's hope he carries on the momentum for the follow-up. Guy Ritchie is back to helm, Robert Downey Jr is once again the titular Holmes and Jude Law his not so bumbling sidekick Dr. Watson. Things have been quiet on the promotion side with the film just half a year away but Warner Bros. have just released two new teaser posters for the film, which we believe will have a trailer attached to this week's release of Harry Potter. Of course the real high interest in the sequel is the first squaring off between Holmes and his deadly arch nemesis Professor Moriarity in this film universe, played here by Jared Harris in what we hope will be an iconic making turn. Moriarity is The Joker to Batman or Lex Luthor to Superman and no actor has really claimed the role for his own in the history of cinema. We are betting on Harris changing that come Christmas time. Despite the relegating of Jarred Harris in a Hugo Weaving style pose and Noomi Rapace's new femme fatale to the background, I quite like these posters and they have me excited for the trailer. What about you? Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is due December 16.
