While we all love the high-end quality content that has become a staple of Netflix over the past several years, there may soon be a stricter approach to what the on-demand streaming juggernaut gives the green light to from here on out.

According to The Information, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos stressed to a group of high-up TV execs that Netflix needs to be a more cost-effective company. This comes on the back of previous employees of the streaming service admitting that Netflix would happily balance out the high cost of a project should it create a buzz and draw praise from critics.

Of course, buzz and praise are always great, yet, in the case of Netflix’s projects, they don’t always help to alleviate the ginormous costs of certain projects. One such project would be Triple Frontier (pictured); a movie that, from a business standpoint, cost a completely unjustifiable $115 million to produce.

Looking at early projections, Netflix is expecting to spend a jaw-dropping $15 billion on original content for 2019, while simultaneously experiencing a net cash flow of minus $380 million by this point of the year.

For their part, Netflix has publicly stated that there will not be any sort of change in their spending policies for original content. What we hear publicly, however, may well be very different to what is being discussed behind closed doors.
