New Avengers: Infinity War Reveals Detail Thanos' Motivations, Thor's Arc

2. Spider-Man And Thor

One thing that's interesting to note is that Spider-Man is now being referred to as 'Iron Spider' in the film's official merchandise, a tacit confirmation of the character's new suit being based on the one Tony Stark made for Peter during 2006's Civil War.

While the description itself goes on to use the Spider-Man name, Iron Spider is front and centre to the character bio, so it's possible this could be Peter's official designation for the next two Avengers films.

Next up is Thor, who - out of all the Avengers - has seen the most change since the team's last outing.

Without his hammer, his father or Asgard as it used to be, the Odinson is a different man to the one of old. Now King of Asgard, his bio offers further clues to his pre-Infinity War predicament as well, stating that Thor is "striving to earn his worthiness".

While that might seem like a fairly innocuous statement following on from the events of Ragnarok, given the context of the character's comic book counterpart - as well as the weapon he'll be sporting in Infinity War - it's actually rather telling. Thor had, until recently, been considered 'unworthy' in the comics for some time. Having lost Mjölnir to a cancer-stricken Jane Foster, the Odinson embarked on a journey of self-discovery to find his 'worthiness', while Jane became the God of Thunder in his absence.

While Natalie Portman is nowhere to be seen in Infinity War, there is the matter of Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, who's just about the best possible replacement for that particular role. If the Odinson does become 'unworthy' in Infinity War, and adopts Jarnbjorn (the axe he's been using in promotional material) instead of Mjölnir, then we could be seeing another Thor in the future.
