New ending being pushed for THE BEAVER?

SPOILER WARNINGS (if you don't want to know the ending of The Beaver, skip this post) Jeff Wells is reporting that a friend of a friend who has connections to director Jodie Foster has seen her currently grounded Mel Gibson starring dramedy The Beaver and reports 'it was okay, a little dark' - but the major piece of news is what she has heard Summit Entertainment/Foster might to do to the film's ending; For anyone that has read the blacklisted script (which has been readily available online for an AGE or two), you will know that Gibson's crazy Walter Black character decides to cut off his hand to get over his reliance on the Beaver that is controlling his actions. But, Hollywood Elsewhere's friend of a friend says there's talk of this ending being changed, likely in the wake of the Gibson-gate, his source claiming "I think they might want to kill him" - meaning Walter Black killing himself instead of just sawing off his hand, and in a metaphysical sense killing Mel Gibson as punishment for who he has become. Apparently that is being setup as the happy ending the movie needs for audiences to buy into The Beaver as a full-on release. It's rumoured this yet to be shot ending might be the one played with test audiences.
