New Zealand fantasy flick LAUNDRY WARRIOR setup by LOTR producer

The 300 style $40 million fantasy movie has Jan Dong-gun, Geoffrey Rush, Kate Bosworth and Thomas Haden Church starring.

Lord of the Rings and the inevitable audience search for the next franchise which can grab their imagination like the hobbits first did six years ago. Variety have the scoop on a new fantasy movie titled Laundry Warrior that's being setup by producer Barrie Osborne, the guy who did the same job on Lord of the Rings. The flick will film in New Zealand in a few weeks time, with a $45 million budget and a cast that includes lead Korean actor Jan Dong-gun (huge star over there, making his Hollywood debut here and pictured left), Geoffrey Rush, Kate Bosworth, Thomas Haden Church and Tony Cox. Some interesting names there but again.. New Zealand + Fantasy Flick will always have LOTR comparisons but thank God, we read the plot and the similarities pretty much ends there...

Story sees a fugitive Asian warrior (Jang) hide out in the American badlands, where he encounters the town drunk (Rush) and a beautiful, but troubled woman.
Sadly that's as much of the plot as we know right now. Lee-Joo Ick will make his directing debut with the movie. He has worked the last five years as a teacher in the New York Film School. The film will use the 300 green screen digital effects, with Weta Digital working on the post-production. A Samurai/Western style fantasy movie with the likes of Geoffrey Rush and Thomas Haden Church on board, could be interesting though that plot synopsis almost feels like the movie has something to hide. Also they really need to change that title
