Ninja Turtles: 10 Reasons It's Going To Suck

9. The Title

Yes, I know that a title is only a title, and plenty of awesome films have bad titles, but doesn't chopping the "Teenage Mutant" from the Ninja Turtles name only serve to hurt the brand identity? After all, Bay has reported that the turtles are now neither teenage nor mutants (but we'll get to that in a moment), and so it seems like a crass attempt to re-fashion the classic characters in a manner that Bay and his team sees fit, which will presumably betray the long-held vision that fans the world over have of them. The wider implications come from the studio, who apparently requested the title change as a means of making it more "simple", which of course could suggest that this is Paramount's whole attitude moving forward, that it's all about making an already pretty simple story even simpler. Given what Michael Bay's version of the word normally means, we'll fully expect that Ninja Turtles is going to be a stillborn, braindead attempt to update a franchise that simply doesn't need the facelift.
