No Mary Jane in SPIDER-MAN reboot?

There'll be no Mary Jane Watson in the new Spider-Man reboot according to THR, and that's definitely something to celebrate. We don't need to see another Peter Parker/Mary Jane story - we've been there and certainly done that - a change of pace (which is what is called for in a reboot anyway) is welcomed. Now let's hope we hear there'll be no Uncle Ben, no Harry/Norman Osbourne, etc. So I suppose the liklihood is the new object of Peter Parker's affection will be Gwen Stacy (played beautifully by Bryce Dallas Howard in the last movie) or maybe it'll be Black Cat? In any event Sony are said to have whittled the names down to Brit actress Imogen Poots (who is really great in Solitary Man but is too physically slight, I'd say), Brit actress Ophelia Lovibond (Nowhere Boy) and Brit actress Lilly Collins (The Blind Side). They also say in contention are Teresa Palmer (Aussie actress from The Sorcerer's Apprentice) and Emma Roberts (the lead of Scream 4). From the sound of things, they have all read for the part but no screentests have taken place yet. Mary Elizabeth Winstead was in the running but has since dropped out. If the role is Gwen Stacy - Teresa Palmer If the role is Black Cat - Emma Roberts. Production is set to begin in December so they got a little while to find an actress to play opposite Andrew Garfield.
