Empire has debuted a rather peculiar and unexpected behind-the-scenes (or official film still?) look at the upcoming 23rd installment in the James Bond saga, Skyfall.

Rather than debuting an image of an Aston Martin or Bond looking all rugged and tough aiming his gun at someone, Sony and EON Productions have decided to showcase their new film with an image of what the girls come to see… Daniel Craig semi-naked in the water wearing trunks.

The image was shot during filming at the London Four Seasons hotel in Canary Wharf recently (believed to be doubling for Shanghai in the film) but comes with no plot notes. We are presuming it is an official image from Skyfall by its production quality and obscure nature, but I guess we can’t actually say for sure and very strangely the image seems to have been removed from Empire’s website. Definitely something fishy going on.

Directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road to Perdition), Skyfall stars Craig as 007, Judi Dench as M with Bérénice Marlohe, Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw supporting.

MGM will produce, finance and distribute with Sony for release October 26th (UK) and November 9th (US).
