Oscars: 10 Highest Grossing Best Picture Nominees Of All Time

8. Forrest Gump - $677 million

Forrest Gump In his second Oscar-winning film in as many years, Tom Hanks again put on a tour de force performance as Forrest Gump, a slow man with a big heart and penchant for finding himself in historical situations. With a movie full of now-cliche saying about boxes of chocolates and telling people to run, the Oscar winning film managed to nab two-thirds of a billion dollars. Enough money to buy all the Bubba Gump Shrimp one could want.

7. Up - $731 million

pixar-up-still-hi-res-05-600x337 Leave it to Pixar to go right from WALL-E, an incredibly moving story of a lovable robot with big eyes and give us Up. The movie starts innocently enough, and then minutes in, they leave the audience with a nearly silent montage of devastation. But regardless of the manly tears that may or may not have been shed, Up's nomination was also an important one in that it was a reminder to the Academy and Oscar-viewers around the globe that animated films are no less worthy of being considered high art as any other form of the medium.
