Oscars 2015: 8 Movies That Should Win (But Totally Won't)

7. Best Documentary

Should Win: Citizenfour Will Win: Anything Else In the Documentary Feature category, the Academy has in recent years passed over the politically charged favourite in favour of the least incendiary option. Last year's universally acclaimed The Act Of Killing lost out to the pleasant tale of hope and fame, 20 Feet From Stardom, with the similarly 'inspirational' Searching For Sugar Man and Undefeated beating out every other political favourite in their respective two years before that. This year, the sore thumb in the Best Documentary race is Citizenfour, a powerful, contemporary, eye-opening feature about modern countercultural icon Edward Snowden. And that's exactly why it's not going to win. Snowden's tale is going to prove too much of a hot potato, unlikely to connect with the typical Oscar voter (predominantly rich, white, and with an average age of 63). It just doesn't seem plausible that they'd go for a film that questions the very fabric of the world they live in.
