Oscars 2018: Predicting All The Nominees

22. Actor In A Supporting Role

Willem Dafoe The Florida Project
A24

Like with last year's battle between Mahershala Ali and Jeff Bridges, this one is already looking like a two horse race between Willem Dafoe (The Floria Project) and Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards), with the latter gaining the early momentum.

Those two are pretty much locked in for nominations, with the rest of the category having a few different players jostling for contention. Call Me By Your Name could just as easily end up with no one here as it could two actors, and that sort of vote splitting could hinder Woody Harrelson's chances too, since Rockwell is so favoured. Richard Jenkins should get in for The Shape of Water, unless he splits votes with Michael Shannon (who isn't getting much attention), and Patrick Stewart deserves to be here for Logan, but superhero movies and Oscars rarely mix. All The Money In The World isn't going to get a lot of love, but there's a lot of buzz for it in this category.

Nominees:

Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project)

Armie Hammer (Call Me By Your Name)

Richard Jenkins (The Shape Of Water)

Christopher Plummer (All The Money In The World)

Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri)
