Casting couch is a new feature where I will take a look at a coverted movie role for an upcoming project and run down the five leading contenders. (not the top 5 i think SHOULD have the role, but the top five who are MOST TALKED about)
This weeks movie is Indiana Jones 4 which is currently stuck in limbo. No-one seems to know if the movie will happen or not but if it does then who should play film’s most famous adventurer?
Harrison Ford, 64
Resume for role: Indiana Jones trilogy
There will only ever be one true Indiana Jones for most of us and that is of course Harrison Ford. At 64 though it really is difficult to imagine him in the role again, and he hasn’t had a critically or commercially succesful film in years. No doubt he WAS the best actor for the role, but can he still pull it off?
Resume for role: Sahara.
At 36 he is at good age for the role, and maybe for future movies down the line. He has a certain charm about him but i’m not sure if he could be menacing enough in fight scenes etc. He played a similar role in Sahara and has another treasure hunt movie coming out in 2008 which will probably put him out of the running.
Dennis Quaid, 52
Resume for role: Flight of the Phoenix
Certainly looks the part of Indiana Jones and he is a hell of an actor. At 52 though he even might be too old for the role, especially if Spielberg wishes to continue the franchise over more films.
Paul Walker, 33
Resume for role: Timeline.
Certainly not the greatest actor around and is desperate for a big hit after The Fast and The Furious propelled him into the spotlight. At 33 he might be slightly too young to play Indy, but he does have the look and build for the role.
Hugh Jackman, 38
Resume for role: Van Helsing.
Currently the biggest name actor on the list. At 38 he is probably the perfect age for the role. He looks the part, has the build and the acting ability to make the part his own. Only problem, he is of course already a big franchise actor as Wolverine, can’t see him wanting to take on two big franchise roles.
So folks take a look at the contenders there and leave a comment in the post about which actor YOU think should take over the role of Indiana Jones if another film is to be made. You do not just have to be restricted to that choice, you can add your own to the mix also.
My pick – Dennis Quaid.
This role eventually went to – Harrison Ford (May 2008 release date for Indiana Jones and the City of Gods)

I think it should be Harrison Ford and if he can’t do it Dennis Quaid would be really really good as Indie. I can really imagine him capturing everything about the character.
Matthew McConaughey? Maybe. I’m not sure.
Paul Walker, Hugh Jackman? Heck no. Nothing against them but I just can’t see them as Indie. I get annoyed when an actor is picked to take over a huge role simply because they are popular at the time and not because they suit the role.

It depends on the intensity of the role. So long as they get a good enough look-a-like for all the action sequences/stunts Harrsion Ford would be a fine choice. In fact, unless he does it, I see no reason for continuing the franchise… why not start something new, just along the same lines.
Just to add my twopenneth – I think Harrison Ford would be a poor choice. He was putting on weight when they made the Temple of Doom. Might as well get my dad to play the part.
Please let it b Hugh Jackman. It’s the only one i could believe as a younger Indy! ANd as a girl if the film sucks he’s at least good eye candy!
The tabloids are saying that McConaughey and Lance Armstrong are possible gay lovers? That sounds pretty rediculous if you ask me. Just cause they are sharing a house doesn’t mean they are gay. And who cares really?
harrison ford definitley! no movie will be the same without the actor who played the part in the previous movie.
