Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier Confirmed For Wolverine 3!

Will it be his swansong in the chair?

Wolverine 3 is largely being advertised as Hugh Jackman's farewell to the role. The Australian megastar has been portraying the grumpy badass for upwards of 15 years, across 7 films (yes, I count his cameo in First Class), so it's kind of a big deal that he's going. One character long-rumoured to be joining Wolverine for his swan-song is Patrick Stewart's Professor Xavier, and now the actor has confirmed the speculation in a chat with Collider. Stewart didn't do a hell of a lot else rather than solidifying his attachment, but he did make passing reference to the Old Logan arc, an angle Wolverine 3 has been associated with for some time. In it, Jackman's titular hero would age, which seems okay with Stewart:
I€™m really looking forward to Hugh Jackman getting old. You know, damn him. He looks so great! So I€™m hoping to see him covered in prosthetics, you know? And then he€™ll make me look better if that€™s the case.€
As someone deeply attached to Jackman's incarnation of Wolverine, but also largely unimpressed with his two previous solo adventures, I really hope they nail Wolverine 3. The actor deserves a roaring send-off (he's always great even when the movie's aren't), and it's nice to know the old-vanguard like Stewart will be helping him achieve that goal. Of course, the Old Logan angle should help. The ageing will take Jackman right out of his physical comfort zone, forcing inner and external transformations, as Wolverine struggles with his own mortality. Wolverine 3 is currently pegged for a March 2017 bow.
