Peter Jackson to work on new fantasy series?????

temeraire.jpgOk, I'm totally confused now. It seems that Peter Jackson has added more work to his ever growing schedule by securing the rights to the fantasy series Temeraire. The historical fantasy series is currently made up of three books (with three more on the way) and is written by author Naomi Novik. Info from Coming Soon.... The "Temeraire" saga reimagines the world of the Napoleonic Wars with the addition of an air force of dragons and valiant aviators. It centers on British naval Capt. Will Laurence, who captures a French ship, where he discovers an unhatched dragon egg in the hold -- a gift from the Emperor of China intended for Napoleon. When the egg hatches, he is forced to give up his naval career to become captain of the dragon he names Temeraire". This sounds AMAZING. Napoleonic wars and dragons!!! There is a great interview at AICN with Jackson which you should check out where he let out some more interesting tidbits... "I love the books and it may well be that I'm going to shoot them. I don't know. I'm just going to see... LOVELY BONES has been occupying our minds for the last few months""I love it where the history is authentic 80% of the time, but we've got 20% of Fantasy in there, which is fantastic". "You know, the Napoleonic Epic, Napoleonic Sea Battles plus dragons... It's a problematic area, but I think linking the two and using the great characters and the intrigue and the politics, which is what I enjoy..." Man, this sounds so cool. This type of film is the stuff I dream about seeing on the big screen. I really, really hope he decides to direct this over The Hobbit and the thought of having multiple fantasy movies from Jackson in the coming years is fantastic. What does this mean for The Hobbit? Surely if Jackson decides to direct this then there is no way he will be able to do that movie as well. With MGM annoucing yesterday that The Hobbit is going ahead, would you really want to see that movie without Jackson directing? I'm not sure I would. source - hollywood reporter, coming soon, aintitcoolnews
