Pixar deservedly have a grand reputation that has them at the forefront of animation: they have stretched the medium technically and created some of the most innovative and loved tales over the last 18 years. From the earliest days with Toy Story, Pixar went on an unprecedented run, delivering masterpiece after masterpiece, and you can justifiably make the claim that Pixar have only made one truly bad movie. They have constantly pushed the boundaries of animation since their inception and despite Dreamworks' best efforts, they just cannot match Pixar for quality and innovation. The likes of Woody, Buzz, Sully, Nemo and Wall-E have permanently entered the pop culture pantheon and are some of the most popular characters in movie history. Pixar's main competitor does not come from the US, but from Japan in the form of Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki as they too create masterpiece after masterpiece as if it's nothing. Pixar films typically appeal to adults as well as children and have a sort of nostalgia about them that makes us wish we were kids again. Pixar films are just so easy to access and indulge in, as they are narratively simple and have eternally likeable characters. Philosophically, Pixar movies tend to be optimistic, bordering on the idealist, which normally wouldn't go over with hard boiled cynics but Pixar just have a way of melting you each time. With 14 films now under their belt with the recent release of Monsters University, Pixar have more than established themselves as the frontrunner in animation, as their films will always leave a lasting impression with the audience. Pixar always treats it audience with complete respect, and is currently the finest the animation world has to offer.
