Predicting Every Upcoming Marvel Movie's Box-Office Results

In life, only three things are certain. Death, taxes and Marvel making money...

At this point in its soon-to-be nine year lifespan, it's generally no longer a question of 'will' a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie make some serious cash - it's more a question of 'how much?'

Seriously - who'd have ever thought that an Iron Man movie would make a billion dollars? Or Guardians Of The Galaxy would make over $700 million? It's a success story to be marvelled at (pun firmly intended), and things are showing no signs of slowing down.

We've got Doctor Strange opening in a couple of weeks, new Spider-Man, Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy movies in 2017, and a couple of Avengers sequels to look forward to - and the smart money's on each of them doing incredibly well.

With multiple films featuring multiple heroes and the Marvel logo acting as a bright red stamp of approval, people will flock to the cinema, and the Disney-led money-printing machine will continue to grow.

So - from lowest worldwide gross to highest worldwide gross - here's how Marvel's currently announced nine-film slate will fare at the box office...

Worldwide Gross: $550 million

Captain Marvel's a tough one to gauge - the only two mainstream female-led superhero movies we've had in recent memory are Elektra and Catwoman, both of which were terrible films that performed equally as terribly. Given that Captain Marvel's a part of the MCU and there's a certain level of quality and box-office success that goes with that, there's no doubt it'll outperform those two. But by how much?

The character will be helped considerably by her debut in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018, before her own solo movie the following year, but it remains to be seen if she'll click with audiences in the same way Black Widow - or to a lesser extent, Scarlet Witch - both have.

Wonder Woman's performance in June next year will be a solid indicator of how much a female-led comic-book movie will fare in the current landscape, but for now, there's not much to go on.

So, using Ant-Man - Marvel's riskiest project in years - as a reference point, and raising that film's final figure ($519 million) to factor in Captain Marvel's probable box-office-boosting appearence in the next Avengers sequel, a $550 million worldwide gross definitely seems achievable.
