Prediction: Slow week means Superbad still top?

A new feature here for a Thursday. I'm going to take a look at the movie's to be released at the weekend and see what their chances of success are and predict how well they are going to perform at the box office. Basically, it's the last chance we get to talk about the movies we have followed all the way through production to their eventual release and we can reflect on how they have shaped up in response to our first predictions. Last week I did really badly saying Superbad would come second to Rush Hour 3 but oh well. I'm always rubbish at these games...

WAR- directed by Phillip G. Atwell (single episode of The Shield) Matt says:
War see's Jet Li and Jason Statham re-team after 5 years since their last outing together in the action/thrller The One. The movie promises lots of action and a great East meets West theme between the two leads but these movies never seem to find a wide audience. I'm thinking this is shaping up to be a similar opening to Li's last two movies Fearless and Unleashed which opened to around $10 million but with the addition of Statham and no-other new release looking for the same audience, I''m going to add a couple more $million and say $14 million opening.
Prediction: $14 million - SECOND PLACE

THE NANNY DIARIES- directed by Shari Springer Bergman & Robert Puclini (American Splendor) Matt says:
The Nanny Diaries has been much delayed and internally I've heard of some bad stories to do with this movie. The films stars a rather dressed down Scarlett Johansson as a young women hired to take care of a little boy for a pompous New York couple. The movie will be aiming for a different audience to War, specifically about women and possibly the young kids market looking to be a little bit of family comedic fun. Although, I think this movie looks absolutely terrible. This is a real hard one to predict this week but I'm saying $8 million.
Prediciton: $8 million - FIFTH PLACE

RESURRECTING THE CHAMP - directed by Rod Lurie (The Last Castle) Matt says:
I think this movie looks absolutely superb. Samuel L. Jackson looks to have given his best performance in years and it sounds like a great cinematic story which should play at your heart strings a little. The cast looks strong with Josh Harnett and Alan Alda involved and these movies tend to be surprise hits, so I'm thinking this might do quite well this weekend. Although it's not playing on as many theatres as some movies this weekend, I think this could get a high screening average.
Prediction - $7.8 million - SIXTH PLACE

MR. BEAN'S HOLIDAY- directed by Steve Bendelack (The League of Gentlemen's Apoclaypse) Matt says:
After performing well over-sea's, Rowan Atkinson as his Mr. Bean character travels to the U.S, which has notoriously been a difficult haven for his wacky character. At the height of the character's popularity, the original movie made just over $2 million on it's opening U.S. weekend in 1997 and with hilarious British movies like Hot Fuzz under-performing where I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry thrives, I predict a difficult time for Bean. This type of British humor might not be their cup of team me thinks.
Prediction: $3.2 million - EIGHTH PLACE MATTS PREDICTIONS FOR THE WEEKEND1 Superbad (2007) $19M 2 War (2007) $14M 3 The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) $10M 4 Rush Hour 3 (2007) $9M 5 The Nanny Diaries (2007) $8M
