Prom Night director remaking The Stepfather

Neal McCormick is just finishing up his Prom Night remake and is now turning his attention towards The Stepfather. Another 80's cheesy horror movie that starred Locke from Lost as a serial killing stepfather!

stepfather.jpgDirector Nelson McCormick must have a thing for remaking 80's horror. He is currently finishing up post-production on his remake of Prom Night which will no doubt go the way of Black Christmas in opening to a very soft release and flying by without anyone giving a damn on April 11th. Variety report McCormick is to remake the 1987 horror movie The Stepfather, which revolved around a teenage boy who discovers that his new stepfather is actually a serial killer who has murdered several families. The script for the remake from J.S. Cardone who also scribed the Prom Night remake is said to have a new spin on the tale. I've never seen the original movie myself but looking up IMDB, it says Terry O'Quinn played the lead villain in the flick. You might not know his name but if I was to tell you he was making a living for himself as John Locke in Lost right now, then you will know exactly who I'm talking about. Very simple premise for a movie and I'm guessing it will play pretty much like Disturbia but instead of the murder living next door, he's actually in the same house. First no-one will believe the son who says he's a killer but of course it will all come out in the end and the The Stepfather will be slain in the final moments. Trailer to the original movie is below and it looks cheesy and ridiculous as hell. I gotta say though Quinn looks interesting although he is obviously doing a Jack Nicholson from The Shining impression. With Locke's character much loved in the popular series Locke, would casting O'Quinn in the same role as before be a smart move from McCormack...
