PTA tackling horror as his next project?

After 8 Oscar nominations for THERE WILL BE BLOOD yesterday including noms for Best Film and Best Director, Paul Thomas Anderson could legitimately be called one of the top directors in Hollywood and whatever project he decides to direct next it's safe to say will not be as under-the-radar during production as his Daniel Day Lewis epic was. Bloody Disgusting have word that PTA is going to do it "Kubrick" style and take a his career into the horror genre after building a legacy of astonishing work. This is something that the legendary director (who I remember reading was a big influence on PTA) did after his Academy recognised classics 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE and BARRY LYNDON.

There's no word on what project he has set his eyes on, or indeed that he knows specifically what material he wants to tackle next. He probably just said in passing that he would like to do a horror movie next and everyone has started to take that as gospel when the truth is directors change their minds over projects all the time. Does PTA have a SHINING in the wings, ready to unleash a real genre yarn on us? Here's hoping because not enough of the top talent in the industry right now would have interest in visiting the genre and it's a shame because it needs the kick up the ass that someone like PTA could give it.
