Quentin Tarantino: Definitive Guide To Homages, Influences And References

Reservoir Dogs

15. A Better Tomorrow II

The inspiration for the slick black suits sported by the heist crew came from A Better Tomorrow II (1987). Interestingly, a scene from A Better Tomorrow II can be glimpsed in the Tarantino-penned True Romance when Alabama is watching television.

14. A Wilhelm Scream

The famous Wilhelm scream - a long-running industry in-joke - is heard when Mr. Pink pushes a pedestrian out of his way whilst fleeing from the pursuing cops in his escape from the jewel heist.

13. The Fury

During the escape sequence in the alleyway, Mr. White takes out his pistols and shoots a policeman through the window of a car. The shot used mirrors one taken directly from Brian De Palma's The Fury (1978), a horror movie about a government agent trying to rescue his psychic son from a corrupt official. A similar moment can also be seen in City On Fire in which two policemen are shot through the window of their car in identically gory detail.
