Inglourious Basterds

18. Madame Mimieux

Cut well before the film's premiere at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, Maggie Cheung's character of Madame Mimieux, the original cinema owner who took Shosanna in after she fled from capture by Hans Landa, was likely named after actress Yvette Mimieux. Directed by Jack Cardiff in 1968, Yvette Mimieux appeared in The Mercenaries (aka Dark of the Sun), a "bunch of a guys on a mission" war movie that starred Rod Taylor in the leading role. Now an elder statesman, Rod Taylor makes a memorable cameo as Winston Churchill in Inglourious Basterds.

17. Hugo Stiglitz

The name of the character Hugo Stiglitz, played by Til Schweiger, was inspired by a Mexican-German actor of the same name. Stiglitz was a notable actor in a variety of exploitation movies, including Nightmare City and Survive.

16. The Donowitz Clan

Eli Roth's basterd Sgt. Donny "The Bear" Jew Donowitz is supposed to be the father of Lee Donowitz, the Hollywood movie producer portrayed by Saul Rubinek in True Romance.
