The Hateful Eight

6. Warren's References

Warren's look very obviously references El Topo. He's also very heavily influenced by The Good, The Bad And The Ugly's Angel Eyes.

5.The Inglourious Basterds Tagline

As well as Kurt Russell's John Wayne pilfering, there's another borrowed catch-phrase of sorts. At one point, "A bastard's work is never done"€”a popular tagline on posters for Inglourious Basterds. Incidentally, 'Mexican Bob' is also the name of a character in the original True Grit.

4. Mr Orange's Death

Perhaps in tribute to the fact that Tim Roth plays someone pretending to be on one side of the good/bad divide, the scene in which he's shot is extremely similar to when he is first shot in Reservoir Dogs. The gut shot is definitely a tribute, and the writhing agony is almost note perfect. Interestingly, Roth seems to return to his Pulp Fiction accent - a slightly more regionally heavy version of his own accent - when the deception is unveiled.

As if anyone on the Frontier would notice that he wasn't posh enough to be a hangman...
