August is a pivotal month in the filmmaking calendar, as it signals the end of the summer, and with it goes the weekly glut of overblown, big-budget action flicks. August saw Hollywood not only dumping their end-of-summer disasters, but also serving up two of the year's best films and a couple of below-the-radar indies that nevertheless gained significant traction for good measure. From the lows of that terrible superhero reboot practically everyone hated to a laughable video game adaptation, a thoroughly mediocre horror sequel and also one of the year's most unexpectedly brilliant little thrillers, August served up plenty of big surprises both good and bad (but wasn't without a few obvious results, too). And now breathe, because Oscar season is coming. Before it kicks off, though, here are August 2015's biggest and most important movies ranked from worst to best...
