Ranking December 2017's Movies From Worst To Best

12. The Greatest Showman

RottenTomatoes Score: 55% (6.0/10)

Box Office: The lavish $84 million musical opened below expectations, but nevertheless broke box office records in its second weekend, likely due to decreased competition, with an impressive 73% opening weekend improvement, the highest weekend "hold" ever for a movie playing in over 3,000 cinemas.

It's not going to be a hit, but it could end up a modest non-flop if it continues to demonstrate legs like this.

Verdict: Hugh Jackman is typically delightful alongside a hugely talented ensemble cast in this historically inaccurate yet infectiously charming musical drama that benefits from toe-tapping pop tunes and sharp direction.

It's not smart or sophisticated, but it knows how silly it is, thoroughly embraces that fact and just has fun with it. For a frothy holiday-period release, it's not bad at all.
