Ranking Every New Movie Trailer From This Past Week

11. How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

Dreamworks' How to Train Your Dragon films are some of the strongest in its entire filmography. And considering that the creative team behind the first two films is coming back to close out their trilogy with this film, there's little reason to doubt that the film will deliver.

But the trailer itself is a bit lackluster.

It starts off promising enough, with some powerful mythologizing and glimpses at the ways the universe of these films have changed, including a bearded Hiccup. But before long, the trailer takes a hard left turn into jokes that don't quite land. Seeing Toothless attempt to perform mating dances is an intriguing idea, but the trailer makes it come off as a cheap and easy gag. To top it off, John Powell's powerful score is eschewed in favor of just slapping an Ed Sheeran song over the top of the trailer.

The result is that the trailer loses all of the power it began with and is reduced to something much more generically kid-friendly than these films have ever been.
