Ranking March 2019's Movies From Worst To Best

20. Serenity

Serenity Anne Hathaway
Aviron Pictures

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 19% (3.92/10 average)

Box Office: Despite being produced for a sensible $25 million budget, atrocious reviews and poor marketing tanked Serenity's commercial prospects from the jump.

The mystery-thriller opened at barely half of initial projections, and went on to give Anne Hathaway the worst wide release opening of her career. With a mere $11.4 million in box office receipts, it's the dud everyone saw coming.

Verdict: It's going to be tough to find a stranger and more tone-deaf major movie released all year than Steven Knight's (Locke) Serenity.

Despite the inherent appeal of the central Hathaway-Matthew McConaughey pairing, this film is an unintentionally hilarious car crash of ideas that largely don't work.

The only reason anyone will remember it a month from now is its utterly barmy mid-film reveal - one that's too deliciously demented to spoil here. So-bad-it's-good aficionados might have some fun with it, but as a serious piece of work, it's an utter trainwreck.
