Ranking The 10 Best Disney & Pixar Films Since 2000

An animated debate.

Disney, the cuddly universally beloved home of feature animation, has been through many changes since 1937, when they released the first animated feature film ever, Snow White & the Seven Dwarves.

It has seen periods of decline and resurgence, a golden age and a renaissance. Yet, through it all, they have continued to deliver tales of castles and dragons, royalty and paupers.

Since the turn of the century, Disney's role has been challenged in the world of modern animation, with many other studios successfully giving it their all, and Pixar in the late '90s was one of them.

Delivering the first Toy Story movie and the birth of feature-length computer animation, Pixar, though Disney would later buy out the studio and make it a part of their empire, remains its own entity.

The struggles that Disney faced in animation when coming from the '90s renaissance and the rise of other studios meant that box office results suffered and they had to go back to the drawing board - literally. The appointment of Pixar founder John Lasseter as chief of all animation for both Pixar and Disney was a revelation, and they soon found their feet again, embarking upon a new era of quality.

So, we combined the best movies both Disney and Pixar has to offer since 2000 and ranked them for your pleasure.

10. Winnie The Pooh

An unsuccessful gem of a film. In 2011 Disney brought back Winnie The Pooh for an all-new adventure with Christopher Robin and the gang. Whilst their intentions may have been to bring the beloved bear to a new generation of children, the film was unfortunately financially unsuccessful.

Taking just $30 million back against a production budget of around $50 million, that underperformance meant that the film was destined to fade into the background of Disney's 21st century oeuvre as larger-scale animated projects took hold. More on those later.

Returning to the hundred-acre wood to see Winnie, Piglet, Tigger and the rest was something that at one time captured the imagination of so many children around the world. Especially since Winnie The Pooh is one of the most financially successful franchises of all time.

Time though, may have moved past this harmless tale of whimsy and innocence, because despite very good reviews, a 91% score on RT, and songs by Zooey Deschanel, it flopped.

It is now available on Disney+ for those who wish to indulge their childhood or introduce their own children to the world of Winnie The Pooh.
