Sacha Baron Cohen: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

Ali G, Borat... It's not all as grim as Grimsby.

Sacha Baron Cohen has built his career on exposing ignorance, racism and stupidity using gonzo tactics and a range of colourful characters. Developing himself from a cheeky TV prankster into a globally recognized, highly bankable star; Baron Cohen has certainly done very well for himself. This success is unsurprising when you take into account his apparent lack of shame, zest for the theatrical and effortless comedic presence. Appearing in everything from a popular children€™s franchise about jungle animals to an Oscar winning musical set in the French Revolution, his choice of roles is as broad as his most famous character€™s faux Jamaican accent. This variety gives him a chameleonic quality, keeping viewers guessing where he€™ll appear next and in what capacity. Most importantly, Baron Cohen is a natural entertainer and, for the most part, a guarantee of laughs. However, despite all his achievements, very few people are able to sustain a 100% success record; for every Borat there€™s a Brüno. The very essence of comedy is that it€™s a subjective art form but there is a limit and sometimes silly accents and flamboyant costumes aren€™t enough to disguise the fact that there isn€™t much of anything beneath the surface. With his questionable new comedy Grimsby (aka Brothers Grimsby in the US) hitting cinemas, let€™s explore the best and worst of Baron Cohen.
