SDCC: Abin Sur's Final Resting Place

Looking at these pictures, I doubt Lantern Corps' Abin Sur is resting in peace, but at least he'll be happy to know that the new ringbearer has way better skin texture and looks a LOT like Ryan Reynolds. Hey, sometimes you need good looking people to wear good looking jewelry, and while Abin could be the one-man Jonas Brother in his own solar system, on earth he'd probably make a few people throw-up a bit. In all seriousness, though, it was pretty cool of Warner Bros. to set-up this attraction for Green Lantern at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. What you see here is the injured, lifeless body of Abin Sur, as played in the movie by Temuera Morrison. No, that's not really Morrison being kept in a glass case, but he does play the character in the movie. According to Latino Review, Morrison has stated that he has been contacted regarding the Green Lantern sequel (wow, already?), in which they tend to shed some light on the origins of the one who wore the ring before Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds).
"They want me to come back in the sequel. They want to show you my backend story for the next movie. They want to show you how I become part of Green Lantern Corps."
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Lantern lore, Abin Sur is the alien being who crashlands on earth, and in his dying state passes on the Green Lantern ring to a test-pilot named Hal Jordan, who in turn eventually harnesses the extraordinary powers of the ring and takes up the mantle of the Green Lantern. We're not really sure if Warner will go with the 'death by crashlanding' bit, but it's safe to say that they're not keeping Abin's death a secret. You should also note that the first pictures of Ryan Reynolds in costume depict the Lantern suit as having the same texture as Abin Sur's skin, which is pretty cool considering the suit was probably made to fit onto Abin's sort of alien race. Green Lantern enters cinemas in the summer of 2011, but for those of you who can't wait, I'm sure Comic-Con has lots more in store to feed your anticipation.
