2016 is a big year for video game movies with both Warcraft and Assassin's Creed vying to break the joystick to big screen curse. Both games have hugely devotedfanbases but cinematic history has shown time and time again that hardcore fansalone isn't enough to drive ticket sales, nor is it to one easy to satisfy.

Warcraft is due in June but with just weeks to go now before it opens, there's a naggingsense it'snot really succeeded in getting TheLord of the Rings style mainstream interest its marketing seemed to be aiming for. Its appeal seems limited to the players of the game, though thankfully for Warcraft there's an awful lot of those and it may not be a total disaster.

It's too early to say where Assassin's Creed falls on the moviegoers radar (it's not due to open until December)but we should start to get an idea soon as 20th CenturyFox start to tease their marketing strategy.

As teased by the above, the movie will see Fassbender's Callum Lynch experimented on to have his geneticmemories unlocked which allows him to be transported back to hisAssassin ancestor Aguilar (also played by Fassbender), from 15th century Spain, who is caught up in a battle between secret societies.

Assassin's Creed sees Fassbender re-team with his Macbeth director Justin Kurzel and co-star Marion Cotillard, which is one helluvaexciting prospect as are the namesMichael K. Williams, Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson whoround out the supporting cast.

The movie is due December 21st and looks way more naturalistic and subdued in colour tone than many probably expected.
