Shawn Levy To Direct Sesame Street Movie

Hot off the success of the recent Muppet big screen return, Fox have announced that Sesame Street is getting its own movie!

Hot off the success of the recent Muppet big screen return, Fox have announced the hiring of director Shawn Levy (Real Steel, Date Night) to adapt another kids favourite - Sesame Street. The Sesame Street gang, which celebrated a 40th anniversary in 2009, have dabbled with movies in the past, most notably the Big Bird centric Follow that Bird and The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland, but have generally taken a backseat to Kermit, Gonzo, Piggy et al. Now though they're getting their own chance to shine and the timing could not be better. Unless you lived in a trash can much like Oscar the Grouch, you'll remember Sesame Street from when you were growing up, with it's host of bizarre characters, obsession with numbers and letters and it's fantastically catchy theme tune. It was most recently in the news for an episode featuring Katy Perry which was allegedly deemed too sexy for kids TV. Longtime Sesame Street writer Joey Mazzarino is working on the script but no word had yet been released as to a plot, and we at WhatCulture! cannot confirm or deny that it will feature the first on-screen kiss between resident odd couple Bert and Ernie. One thing we do know however is that sunny days are coming to sweep the clouds away! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KG14o6dVGBU&feature=player_embedded source - the hollywood reporter
