Should Paul Verhoeven's Showgirls Be Remade?

Final Analysis

There is much potential within the story of Showgirls, particularly if it was reworked by a female writer (or at least someone with a better understanding of women than Joe Eszterhas). To do the material justice and appease the fans, it would have to push for an NC-17 rating €“ but since NC-17 films don€™t make much money, any studio-driven remake would likely be R-rated. This would take money, but would also defeat the entire purpose due to the original€™s risqué subject matter.

Remake Risk Level: Medium. It€™s not hard to make money from this, but you won€™t get a good film by going the easy way.
