Skyfall: 10 Reasons It's A Best Picture Oscar Contender

2. It's The Year's Best-Looking Film

The Internet nerds exploded with excitement when it was announced that Roger Deakins was going to be the cinematographer for Skyfall, given that he just might be the best lenser working in the business today. The tragic truth that Deakins has been nominated for his cinematography 9 times and has yet to win makes his extremely likely 10th nomination one of the more interesting narratives going into the Academy Awards, and though he faces stiff competition from films like The Master, Les Miserables and Lincoln, many feel that his visually stunning work - easily the most conscientious and memorable of any Bond film - will win out and finally earn the master technician that long-deserved award. Though technical nominations such as Sound Editing and Sound Mixing tend to go to "lesser" blockbuster films, the Cinematography award is taken a little more seriously with regard to the main competition; it tends to go to "worthier" films, and as such, if Deakins' name shows up next week, we just might see Skyfall show up in the Best Picture frame a few minutes later.
