Sofia Vergara in Talks for 'Machete Kills'

Vergara would play the leather clad (calm down) Madame Desdemona, whose Mexican harlots have information that Machete requires.

What is it with Robert Rodriguez and the ladies? It seems like he just can't seem to get enough of them, with news today that he may be adding yet another deadly femme fatale to the already burgeoning line-up that he already has in place for his Machete sequel 'Machete Kills'. Variety reports that 'Modern Family' star Sofia Vergara is in talks to join the cast. As noted in previous news stories, 'Machete Kills' sees the legendary ex-federal title character, played by Danny Trejo, recruited by the US government to stop an arms dealer from launching a deadly missile attack. Vergara is said to be in talks to play the leather clad (calm down) Madame Desdemona, whose Mexican harlots have information that Machete requires. Seriously, it almost seems like Rodriguez has done a Nick Fury (or Stallone), recruiting his own 'Avengers' (or 'Expendables' even) style team of beautiful and deadly ladies for this latest effort. As well as Vergara, Rodriguez has also brought into the fold returning stars Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez and as we reported yesterday, Amber Heard. Who's next I wonder? With all this talk about Mexican harlots and manipulative spies and government agents, I'm starting to wonder whether or not this film could ever rise above its exploitative Grindhouse origins and become something more or is it forever restrained by its limitations as a gimmick style movie, unable to break away from its mock trailer origins? 'Machete Kills' also stars Demian Bichir and Mel Gibson starring as the arms dealer with shooting set to begin this month in Austin, Texas.
